Transpersonal Therapies

I am an integrative and transpersonal counsellor, trained by Re-Vision (London) and I also work as an academic at the University of Nottingham. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which oversee professional standards and ethics.

I offer individual counselling, with a transpersonal and soulful orientation, as well as facilitating regular groups, courses and workshops. I also work as a volunteer counsellor at Treetops Hospice for bereaved clients or those facing a life-limiting illness. I am committed to supporting people move towards wholeness and the role counselling, holotropic approaches and education can play in this process.

I research mindfulness, integral & trans-personal psychology and well-being as a member of the Centre for Research in Human Flourishing (University of Nottingham). I love reading and I am particularly inspired by the writings of Stanislav Grof, Ken Wilber, Bernardo Kastrup, Gabor Maté, Adyashanti, Rupert Spira and Alan Watts. I have written numerous articles, book chapters and books on these topics myself. I'm currently working on two edited books: 'Being a Mindful Teacher' and 'Concerning Mental Health in Education', which will be published by Routledge.

I received a First Class (Hons) Degree in Education and Art from the University of Exeter in 1998 and a PhD in Peace Education and Sociocultural Theory from the University of Birmingham in 2003. I qualified as an integrative and transpersonal counsellor in 2024. I am also a qualified mindfulness teacher, trained by Patrizia Collard/Enter Mindfulness, a SoulCollage® Facilitator, Sound-Healer (College of Sound Healing) and TRE® (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) Facilitator (TRE College). I have taken the core modules of the Grof Transpersonal Training (GTT) Programme, covering the Paradigm of Holotropic Breathwork, The Power Within (Bodywork), Music & Transcendence and Spiritual Emergency. I have has also taken elective modules in Jung, Alchemy & The Transformation of Consciousness, and Inner Ethics/Soul Collage. I finished my breathwork training with Grof Legacy in 2024 and offer regular workshops in 'Grof Breathwork'.

As part of ongoing quality assurance, I receive regular supervision in counselling, mindfulness, TRE® and Holotropic Breathwork®, actively researching all of these fields, attending regular conferences, courses and retreats to ensure my work and guidance is informed by deep inner-experience, the latest research and good practice. I am also a member of the Association for Spiritual Integrity and follow their honour code of ethics and good practice for individuals.

I have attended a Quaker meeting all of my adult life, adopting a contemplative and universal approach to spirituality. I have served as both a Clerk and Elder to my local meeting in Nottingham, UK. 'Clerkship' involves engaging contemplative approaches and discernment to make spiritually-informed group decisions.

I also love art and continue to practise, focusing on contemporary altars, shrines and portraiture, drawing upon studies at the University of Exeter and the Slade Summer School of Art, London. My work has been shown in numerous exhibitions, winning the prestigious Attenborough Prize in 2011. I accept commissions and some of my work is available for sale. Artwork can be an excellent tool for  integration and creativity is employed to help with this process in many of the courses and workshops I offer as well as my approach to counselling.

I look forward to supporting you on your journey.
