TENSION/TRAUMA RELEASE EXERCISES (TRE®) 

TRE® are a set of exercises developed by Dr David Berceli,  
that facilitate a natural shaking mechanism in the body. This helps to down-regulate and calm the nervous system, allowing deep resting and relaxation in the body and mind.

Edward is a trained by the TRE College to provide individual and group sessions in this somatic approach to releasing stress, tension and trauma. He offers monthly group sessions (see groups/events) and can offer one-to-one sessions for private clients.

About TRE®

What happens during a TRE® session?

The sessions follows the following format:
  • Brief introductions and check-in. 
  • Opening relaxation/meditation
  • Five standing exercises and a floor sequence.
  • 'Shaking/tremoring' for about 10 minutes. You will be taught how to stop the process for yourself at any time.
  • A period of rest and integration.
  • An opportunity to share your experience. 

Session practicalities

  • The session involves laying on the floor so please bring something comfortable (e.g. yoga mat, quilt, pillow) to rest upon and keep you warm.
  • Mobile phones/tablets need to be switched off.
  • Please drink plenty of water afterwards. Bring a water bottle with you.
  • Sorry, no late admission once a session has started. 
  • If the session is online, please ensure you have two camera angles ready where Edward can see you standing up and laying down.

Contraindications

For most people there are no contraindications that would prevent you from benefiting from a TRE® session. However, you should not attend if you are processing an active or recent trauma. Please let Edward know if you have a clinical or psychiatric diagnosis and/or are receiving therapy or are not sure if you are ready to attend. Although many of the exercises can be adapted and some can be skipped you need to be reasonably flexible.
