GROF BREATHWORK

Holotropic: Moving toward wholeness...

Transpersonal Therapies offers occasional workshops in low-intensity breathwork for gentle inner exploration. Edward also offers higher-intensity Grof Breathwork for individuals, pairs and groups following the approach developed by Stanislav Grof.

Both approaches fuse research from transpersonal theory with breathing, music and creative integration. The breath is used to induce a non-ordinary state of consciousness through which biographical, perinatal or transpersonal experiences can be experienced for deep healing and learning.

Please see the groups/events page to book onto any of these workshops.

About Breathwork

What is Grof/Holotropic Breathwork?

Grof/Holotropic Breathwork was developed by Stanislav and Christina Grof. It involves rapid and deeper cycling of the breath, accompanied by loud rhythmic music whilst lying down, to induce a non-ordinary state of consciousness and access to inner healing wisdom. During a breathwork session you will have an opportunity to both breathe and sit for another. There will be opportunities to represent your experience in artwork afterwards or journal as well as share your experience in a circle.

How should I prepare for breathwork?

Breathwork is open to all adults regardless of experience. However, you should not try this approach if you have any health issues affecting your eyes or lungs and/or you think you may be pregnant.

You should be free from the influence of alcohol or other substances when participating in breathwork and allow yourself plenty of time for integration work afterwards.
